Korean-born and Michigan-based violinist Yeagi Kim Broadwell is a versitile musician, who has established herself as a successful performer, educator, and music executive.
Heralded for her “perfect performance” on Korean Times of Utah, violinist Yeagi Kim Broadwell has a unique international background. She has performed and studied in Korea, Russia, the Netherlands, Belgium, England, Czech Republic, and the United States. Musicians she has worked with include Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Eugene Ugorsky, and members of Calefax Reed Quintet. As an in-demand freelancer, she has performed with and recorded for such artists as David Archuleta, Jenny Oaks Baker, Kurt Bestor, Alfie Boe, Sarah Brightman, Michael Bublé, Kaskade, Bryn Terfel, and Stevie Wonder. Dr. Broadwell has also been featured in masterclasses with David Kim, the Concertmaster of the Philadelphia Philharmonic, and Igor Frolov, Resident Composer and Professor of Music at the Moscow Conservatory.
A native of Busan, South Korea, Dr. Broadwell demonstrated talent and passion for music at an early age, studying piano with her mother at the age of five and taking up the violin at seven. Prestigious competitions won include the Dongpaek Young Musicians Regional Competition, Open Siberian Competition for Young Composers, and Riverton Metropolitan Orchestra Competition for Young Artists. She has also participated in the International Festival of Twentieth-Century Young Musicians in Moscow, Idyllwild Music Festival, and Killington Music Festival in the US. Dr. Broadwell’s list of prestigious international venues, includes the Concertgebouw Hall, the Doelen in the Netherlands, Queen Elizabeth Hall in Belgium, and the University of Cambridge in England.
In demand as an orchestral violinist, Dr. Broadwell has performed and toured with the Novosibirk Youth Symphony Orchestra, Codarts Symphony, Nationaal Jeugd Orkest, Nieuw Kamer Orkest, BYU Philharmonic Orchestra, Utah Philharmonia, and the Orchestra at Temple Square, the resident ensemble for the Tabernacle Choir. Dr. Broadwell has also been a featured soloist with the Riverton Metropolitan Orchestra, Nebo Philharmonic, the Oquirrh Mountain Symphony, and Lindon Youth Orchestra.
Dr. Broadwell received her Doctorate of Musical Arts in Violin Performance at the University of Utah. She also holds a Master of Music from the Rotterdam Conservatory in the Netherlands and a Bachelor of Music degree from Brigham Young University, where she held a full scholarship and served as a Teaching Assistant. Dr. Broadwell is also a graduate of the Novosibirsk Specialized Music School, a specialized conservatory that cultivated renowned musicians Vadim Repin and Maxim Vengerov. Her teachers include Igor and Vesna Gruppman, David Park, Olga Marchenko, Monte Belknap, and Judd Sheranian.
Dr. Broadwell’s students have won numerous competitions and college music scholarships. She has judged a number of competitions and festivals, and has given workshops and masterclasses throughout the state of Utah. She served on the faculty at Utah Valley University for seven years and currently resides in the state of Michigan, teaching at Saginaw Valley State University and playing for Saginaw Bay Symphony Orchestra, Midland Symphony Orchestra, and Flint Symphony Orchestra.
In 2015, Dr. Broawell co-founded Moutain Springs Music Festival, to help "cultivate today's musicians into tomorrow's leaders through accessibility to high quality music education and performance." She is currently the President and the Artistic Director of the non-profit, Mountain Springs Music Inc.
